A year of GROWTH (word of the year)

IMG_3741

I am not a resolution girl.  For me choosing a word of the year feels like a tangible way for me to guide my intentions and aspirations for the coming year.  So, this year my word is GROWTH.

Here is how I plan to see GROWTH in my life this year:

Professional:  I have worked part-time for the past six years, and have loved it.  I recently have accepted a new full-time position, which means lots of new challenges and skills to develop.  It is also requiring lots of adjustment at home to this new schedule.

I love my blog and instagram.  I plan to continue working to grow and build what I have created here, as well as, working toward new brand partnerships and nurturing the ones I have currently.  In this world of social media, it’s easy to feel “left out or excluded” from events when you don’t get the “invite”.  I spent the past year being included in more, but also just not attending some because of schedule conflicts   Then you see the pics, and think “I should have gone.”  This year, it is going to be about attending what fits my brand,  not thinking twice about the invites I don’t get, and definitely not regretting the ones I didn’t attend!

Personal:  This is it…I turn 50 this year!  Fit to Fifty is ON!   I want to make my diet and exercise a priority.  I am re-comitting to eating well, exercising regularly, drinking more water, and getting more sleep.

Social media can be a time sucker.  When you’re focusing on building your brand, it can become all-consuming.  I am planning to “check in” my phone every night at 9pm (just like I require of my 13-year-old) …because there is nothing more important than being a good example of my own rule!

Books are on my list!  Last year I can count on one hand the books I read, and it is not the whole hand!  I love to read.  So by putting my phone down and logging off, it leaves time to read before bed.

Most of all, spending time with my family and friends.  My boys are thriving in their personal careers, and I am still lucky to still have them under my roof, but I know those days are limited…they are ready to fly.  I do not want to regret a single moment that I didn’t spend with them because I was on my phone or at an event that I felt like I “should” attend.  I also have a 13-year-old daughter that watches everything I do.  I want her to see in me an example of balance in self, career and family.

So here’s to 2018!  A year of GROWTH in healthy habits, personal and professional success, and meaningful relationships.

Cheers!

Simple & Rustic Hot Cocoa Table

One of my favorite little set ups during the holidays are hot cocoa/coffee stations.  I am getting my coffee station together this weekend, but wanted to share a fun little hot cocoa table idea I styled with some cute buffalo plaid cups and napkins I got from Oriental Trading.

The first place I headed was out to my porch to gather my props.  These cute snowy trees and lantern were perfect for my rustic vibe.  The tall white stump I actually use as a side table in my family room, and I love it…plus it makes a perfect extra little seat!  I recently just made the tassel garland after being inspired by something similar at Anthropologie.

So you see, you really don’t have to over think it.  Start with some cute paper goods that set your theme, and then just go from there!

I was provided these samples free of charge by Oriental Trading to provide my honest review.   In addition, some links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link (Amazon links).  All ideas and opinion are my own

Winter Pajamas

One thing I love most about Winter and the holidays, are buying new pajamas!  I love snuggling in for the night with a fire, the Christmas tree lit, candles burning, a glass of wine, and feeling cozy in some cute pajamas.  I’ve linked some of my favorites below that will definitely be coming to my house this season.

Shop them all HERE!

Cheers!

Fall’s Favorite Boots

I have been waiting, and waiting for Fall to arrive so I would have a good excuse to grab some new boots for this season!  I’m showing you my two latest and greatest in the pics below, and I have sourced a handful of others that I’m thinking need to be in my closet this season!

These Leopard booties were a fun find at Target, and they are perfect all around!

My Favorite Fall Textures

Fall brings lots of new textures whether it’s in fashion or everyday products.  Here are some of my favorite textures this season and where I like to find them, either in my closet or in my home.

Copper:  This warm rosy metal is my new favorite whether I am styling my bar cart or using it everyday like this copper water bottle.  I love it whether its shiny and new or when it gets that lovely patina.

Plaid:  I am mad for plaid, and Fall takes it to the next level.  Hunting thrift stores for amazing vintage wool plaid blankets is one of my year-long favorite hobbies, but it is in Fall when I get to pull them out and use them!

My other favorite way to use plaid is wear it!  This darling plaid boyfriend blazer is perfect for Fall and will take you all the way through the winter months as well!  So, find yourself a plaid shirt or blanket scarf this season!

Velvet:  It’s not just for holidays anymore!  A huge trend last year that has easily moved right into 2017.  I love a great velvet boot, but am really loving this luxe fabric in pleated skirts and tops!

(velvet loafers, cami, boots, pleated skirt)

Marble:  This gorgeous stone has been around forever, and because I dream of having my kitchen counters done in this gorgeousness, adding it in with accessories gives me the small fix I need.  Plus it really just glams up a space!

(rectangle tray, coasters, round tray)

What are some of your favorite Fall Textures?
