How to Throw a Football Tailgate Party

When fall rolls around, my family is ready for some football! Here in the Pacific Northwest we get a little, ok a lot, of rain, so anytime you can take a party outside, you better believe that’s what we’re doing! Let’s kick off the season with friends and family, and of course, football! Tailgating is about good food, but food that is easy and travels well. If you have an SUV or a large and open trunk, then you are set for a true tailgate! So, grab your portable grill, ice chests, and my easy appetizers of Roasted Rosemary CashewsBuffalo Cauliflower Bites, and a Rice Krispie Football Treat and find the nearest game day parking lot!

Disclosure: As an OTC blogger, I received compensation and/or products in exchange for my styling and crafting services. As always, all opinions are my own.

A fun touch for any party is adding fresh flowers..so adding a bouquet to your tailgate set up gives that feminie touch!

For this party, we changed up some of your usual Game Day snacks of peanuts and wings with delicous recipes for Roasted Rosemary Cashews and Buffalo Cauliflower Bites!  And what about a fun take on the usual Rice Kirspie treats with this giant football!

Here are a few tips for tailgating:

  • Think of it as a “picnic”. Bring food that is simple and easy to transport
  • Bring items that can pull “double duty”. A picnic basket can hold food inside, and then once you arrive it becomes a styling tool!
  • Don’t forget to add your team spirit with garlands, pennants and flags.
  • Make sure you have lots of water and other non-alcohol drinks on hand to stay hydrated.
  • Bring anti-bacterial wipes, Kleenex, and extra chairs and blankets.

I’m sharing all the details from this fun Game Day celebration over on the Fun365 website by Oriental Trading.  Be sure to check out the full Football Tailgate Party Ideas article!

Urban Chic Baby Shower {Styled Shoot}

When I think “urban chic” I think of wood and metal with touches of metallics and greenery. This baby shower focuses on those stylish elements! We’ve taken a wood pallet and created an amazing backdrop, added in sparkly gold flatware, balloons and touches of baby’s breath to create the perfect celebration for any Mother-To-Be.

I’ve partnered with one of my favorite party suppliers of fun, Oriental Trading, to put together a shower that anyone could easily re-create!

A Peep Four Ways!

Are you a fan of Peeps??  You know, those sugared covered marshmallow bunnies and chicks that used to only come out at Easter??  Now they make an appearance for every holiday AND they are now in Oreos!!  Heaven help me!

I am a fan!!  Yep, right here!!  However, my favorite way to eat a Peep is after it has been out of the package 1 day!  I like when it tends to have a little more “bite” to it than the squishy soft right out of the package texture!

I thought it would be fun to show you Peeps 4 ways!  Two ideas you can eat, but if eating them is not your thing, you can always decorate with them!

How about Peeps and jelly beans lining the inside of my trifle bowl, and a vase of tulips stuck in the center!  Super easy and a darling Springtime centerpiece!

My kids always get Peeps in their Easter baskets..some love them more than others, but everyone loved this S’mores Peep dip!  Just line the bottom of a 9×13 pan with chocolate bars, lay your chicks in a row, and bake at 300 until the chocolate is melted.  Use graham crackers for dipping!

I am crazy for these Peeps Pops  I found on Pinterest from Gimmie Some Oven…this is what I’m making this year!

Ok…and is this not the cutest wreath ever from Tried and True Blog???

So whether you love ’em or hate ’em…maybe you could decorate with ’em!

A Celebration to Remember

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite details when creating a Celebration to remember.

Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, a retirement, or a life lived, creating a display of memorabilia from the person of honor is a loving tribute.  It creates a sense of who they are and all the things that brought them joy throughout their life.

dsc_1109

Photos and articles about accomplishments copied and framed gives your guests some insight into highlights and special events.  Adding in a little about their favorite hobbies shows a side of someone’s passions.

dsc_1102

By creating this either in a tablescape or doing smaller displays as centerpieces is a really fun way for everyone to connect and share fun stories and memories they may have, or get a glimpse into a side of the person they didn’t know.

dsc_1104

You can see another celebration I styled here for a Retirement/70th Birthday party where I created centerpieces from mementos from the gentleman’s travels and life as a college professor.

I love creating events that are personal and meaningful.  I hope you’ll find something here to inspire your next Celebration.

How to Set a Kids Halloween Table

dsc_0680

I love setting any table, but I really love setting a kids table!

I have 4 kids (3 are now in their 20’s) but they still love to sit at the kid’s table, because it’s just more fun!

dsc_0689

This table was super easy to put together and not expensive at all!

To start, I used black and white check fabric that I recently thrifted for $4 as the tablecloth.  Fabric is much cheaper than buying a new tablecloth, so check your local craft or thrift stores.

A fun way to “dress up” paper plates is to use your everyday dinner plates as chargers, and layer your paper napkins in there too!

dsc_0690

For the centerpiece, a couple of glittery chandeliers from the Halloween section at your local Target or craft store, a couple of pumpkins and ghosts bowls and you’re done!

dsc_0681

I always love having a little treat at each place setting, so these cute linen bags and bendy straws from Oriental Trading are inexpensive, but were just what I was looking for!

So there you go, an easy Kid’s Table perfect for your next Halloween get-together!

Modern Mint & Gold Birthday Party

My sweet Lucy turned 12 this year and just started middle school…stop time please!!

This year for her party she wanted to invite 5 of her closest friends for a late night get-together.  Her favorite color is mint, so a mint, gold, black and white party was the request.  Ask and you shall receive!  I found all the perfect supplies from Oriental Trading!

dsc_0439

The girls loved that I set them a “fancy” table in their own private dining room.

dsc_0454

They dined on Mac and Cheese, Cesar Salad, Strawberries, 6 layer dip and lots of chips.  Their favorite though was the Sparkling cider poured over rock candy sticks served in champagne flutes!  The rock candy turns the cider colors…for us it was turquoise.

dsc_0445

dsc_0441

I loved the shape of the chevron mint plates, and how cute are the gold heart plates??  Little gift boxes were at each place setting filled with gold chocolate candies.

dsc_0455

Lucy is not a big cake girl, so I thought it would be fun to make mini cupcake push pops!!  These were the perfect size, fun to eat and tasted delicious!!

dsc_0456

We did a couple crafts which always make a party fun.  Each girl brought a t-shirt and I supplied pillow forms and we made these pillows.  So cute and easy!  Ribbon chokers were the other craft…just ribbon cut to size, fastened with velcro dots and a jewel glued on!

IMG_0625.jpg

Overall, it was a simple party spent eating, laughing, and just having fun together!

Happy Birthday Lucy Joy…we love you!

Eat Drink and be SCARY!

I have touted my love of the bar cart several times, but hands down my favorite holiday to style it for is Halloween!!  There are so many ways to dress this little beauty up.  For this round I went a little glitzy with a bit of fun!

dsc_0338

I love these skull cups from Oriental Trading.  I used them on a Creepy Bar I styled last year, you can see that here.  The cute pom pom garland and the skeleton bendy straws add that bit of whimsy I was going for.

dsc_0319

Having little treat bags at the ready for your guests to fill up with sweet treats is always a hit!
